The Image of God
67"What Image is in Your Mirror?"
When looking in a mirror, what we see depends on our point of view. Mankind was created in the image of God; what reflects should be a representation of Him. The image won’t be based on an individual’s beliefs; it will be an accurate read and makes no difference what your belief is. You will show to yourself and the world; a good example of what God is… or a good example of what He isn’t. Our image is not dependant on our personal belief or point of view. The thing is our point of view is influenced by what we believe. The image we see should have an influence on our point of view as well as what we accept in belief.
Those of us who are followers of Christ know that God is the only one that is perfect; we are not and won’t be in this life. Being perfect, His gifts are good and perfect with Christ being given as the ultimate gift of perfection. Jesus was and is the greatest example of the righteousness of God. We follow His example in a loving effort to please our Heavenly Father. The book of Hebrews informs us that it is impossible to please God without faith. In order to be pleasing we need faith. Not just a faith in His existence but also in who and what He is… the apex of righteousness. It is because of our belief that we have the faith to follow Christ’s instruction.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all his righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you.
The image in the mirror is shaped by our view and the faith that begins with belief. What we see depends on our belief; or the lack of it. When we believe in Christ, we also believe in God; what we see is measured in relation to where we are in our faith. In turn, our lack of belief and faith also frames the image in our view. We will take notice of where we are in our quest to reflect the glory of His righteousness, or we will see reasons to justify the actions that create the image reflected. Depending on your point of view, you will seek the righteousness of God, following His will, or continue to follow whatever you accept as your own will. No matter how right it seems it still falls short of the good and perfect will of God. In all things Jesus followed the will of the Father and for good reason.
Matthew 18:14 (KJV)
Even so it is not the will of the Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
If we truly make an effort to follow the example of Christ, then we will look past the image seen with the eye and seek the image that God wills for our spirit. When you look into the mirror remember the advice of James and don’t forget what you look like. Remember also whose image you really should be trying to see… "The Image of God."
Romans 14:17-18 (KJV)
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
Blessings,
Matt.

Welcome to another Christian. You speak directly to the point and this looks promising. Peace.
Very nice sir. You know your Bible!
Christ Himself is the image of the invisible God, and when we have the Spirit of Christ in us, we are transformed from glory to glory into His image, praise God! Thank you for this beautiful message. You've got a fan! Thank you for becoming a fan, too! Welcome to HubPages! I look forward to reading more and more! God bless you!
A great hub that calls us into a self awareness. Our first priority should be to reflect His image, and that the world may see Him in us.
I'll be added to your growing list of followers.
God Bless
Yes..the apple doesn't fall far from the tree..we should look like our Father..Amen.. :)
Seeking his Kingdom is walking in the spiritual for we can not partake of His Kingdom walking in the flesh. When He breathed life into us we became an image of His spirit. And we must walk with His spirit in a visible way. Great article and thank you for the connection, be blessed!
Nice hub i long for the day when i could see God's actual image in me, but i know it's only when the out pouring of the spirit is poured out i'd be change in the twinkling of an eye. As for now without that power we cannot match ourselves with God. some of us still lie, thief, curse, get angry easily, back bite one another etc.
I've been reading some of your Hubs after you left a thoughtful and thought-provoking answer to a question I posted to sound out some opinions before publishing a Hub. In any event, I did appreciate you taking the time to post such an interesting reply.
I haven't published any Hubs on religion although metaphysics has been an area that I've spent time reading and thinking about - more than I'd like to admit. When reading this Hub, I'm reminded very much of Platonism and that shouldn't surprise me since it folded rather nicely into the beliefs of the Medieval Church. It is interesting that similar thinking about the ideal did exist prior to Christianity.
I look forward to reading other Hubs. From what I've read so far I have a feeling that while I probably won't agree with the method you've used to arrive at your final positions, I will always have a great deal of respect for that view; and I suspect I will be in full sympathy and agreement with it most of the time.
Peace,
Sem
Yes, good word, we should be able to say 'If you seen me, you have seen the Father' not in arrogance of course, be in knowing our Fathers will is perfectly alive in us.
matt, this post truly inspired me. It picked me up and got me out of myself. I was reminded that I should not try to follow my will, but to turn both my will and my life over to the care of God.
Thank you.
Matt,
Thank you very much for your enlightening and uplifting response to my comment.
