“Understanding a relationship with God through Christ”
God created man for a relationship with Himself. It was God’s choice, the thing He wanted. The old saying… last but not least takes its meaning here. There was careful consideration going into the decision concerning man and his creation. The Earth was made and prepared, fitted with everything we could possibly need. And God consulted Himself in deciding just how man was to be formed.
Genesis 1:26 (NLT)
Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”
For us to think that we are left to fend for ourselves is itself a rejection of what God wants for all of us. At the same time, given the things God has in store for us to do… we couldn’t possibly begin to pull it off without His help. God has always been there to help us. We just don’t always understand what His help looks like. The good thing is that God knows this about us and has made it real simple. We don’t have to look for miracles. Don’t expect to see smoke and fire or flashing lights. Help from God is easy to find… He puts it right next to us. God works through us and the people around us. Remember our story about Lazarus and the beggar and all the help he had before he died.
Luke 16:27-29 (NLT)
“Then the rich man said, ‘Please, Father Abraham, at least send him to my father’s home. For I have five brothers, and I want him to warn them so they don’t end up in this place of torment.’ “But Abraham said, ‘Moses and the prophets have warned them. Your brothers can read what they wrote.’
God is a God of relationship; He prepared the world in order that we could understand His love for us, steps were taken to point to how important that relationship was to Him. If God wants to love us and we are made like Him… it follows that He would want us to learn to do what He does. I know we are not all there yet but we can all help each other get there. That too has been made really simple…
John 13:34-35 (NLT)
So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
Blessings,
Matt.
